After the unquestionable success of last year’s charity gig, in aid of UNICEF which saw Birmingham hotshots Sugarthief and Spilt Milk Society delight more than 170 people, we are delighted to announce our return to The Bodega, alongside some of the hottest up and coming bands in the indie scene today.
Endorsed and mentored by the generational musician Carl Barat, Blackwaters have gone from strength to strength. Having already played hit festivals up and down the country, from Reading and Leeds to Y Not to Download, they’ve already demonstrated that they can handle the big stage. We are delighted to host them at their first Nottingham headline show.
Following a path previously trodden by the likes of London Grammar and Amber Run, our opening band BLONDES have the potential to be the next big thing to emerge from the University of Nottingham. Formed only 2 years ago, this exciting five-piece have already earned a reputation for their dynamic and upbeat live performances, with 2020 poised to be their true breakthrough year outside of the city. With perky debut EP Nothings Cool Forever mirroring the likes of Circa Waves and Two Door Cinema Club, things are looking bright for this young five-piece, and with plenty of new music around the corner, Blondes are a band worth keeping an eye on.
Alongside Blondes, we welcome yet another Midlands band to Nottingham to make their NG1 debut. Preceded by a glowing reputation, indie rockers VIOLET will be setting the Bodega stage alight with their likeable blend of smooth, spaced-out pop hooks interspersed with 90s grunge influences. Like Blondes, they are relative newcomers to the scene, yet their maturity of sound would have you think they were true veterans. Having generated serious attention amongst the Birmingham circuits over the past year, with huge support slots with friends SPINN, we are delighted to be hosting this talented quintet.
