With album number four ‘Sniff More Gritty’ making waves, Du Blonde returns to The Bodega on 31st January 2025, showcasing her tracks ladened with humour and heartbreak, so we got to know ’em!
Hey Du Blonde! We’re looking forward to welcoming you to The Bodega, how are you feeling ahead of the tour?
Excited! I haven’t played live in 5 years. I have an awesome band playing with me (bigfatbig) who will be supporting and playing as my band too and they’re all really great people so I think it’s gonna be a blast.
The reaction to your latest album Sniff More Gritty has been great! Having produced it yourself do you feel that there was more freedom to experiment with the whole process?
Definitely. I’ve produced the last 3 records so I’m used to it now but the further away I get from the time I was with record labels, the freer I feel to do whatever I want.
Have you had a chance to play any of the new tracks live or is this tour a chance to give the new ones a run onstage?
This tour will be the first time any of the songs from Sniff More Gritty and also Homecoming (my last album) have been played. The Homecoming shows were cancelled during covid so I have two whole albums of new material to pick from.
Are there any tracks you’re looking forward to taking on the road?
I’m super excited about TV Star and any of the tracks that have gang vocals in the choruses. I have a bunch of people on stage with me to sing along and having recorded it alone in my room it’ll be amazing to hear it all played live. I’m also thinking of doing a little acoustic section in the middle of the set which will be nice.
You’re kicking off the New Year by going straight into a tour, have you got much planned once the shows come to an end?
We’re doing some festivals but in general I’m pretty open to however next year rolls out. This year was super heavy on getting the record ready to after February I might try and have a break and think about what I want to do next.
As a self-contained artist in terms of writing and producing, are you coming up with new ideas whilst you’re on the road or is touring a chance to focus in on the songs that are already out?
I never plan to write on the road but it’s definitely happened before. For the most part I’m just excited to see how everything sounds live and get back into the flow of doing shows. That being said, it can be super inspiring to play music with talented musicians everyday so who knows!
Lastly, what’s on your dream rider? No budget. Do your worst!
Probably a bunch of local zines. I collect zines so I’d probably be on the lookout for them anyway.
