Meet ‘Em – Adwaith

We’ve got a visit incoming from Welsh language indie-rock band Adwaith this weekend, so we wanted to have a catch-up and meet ’em…

Hey Adwaith! Thanks for joining us for a chat. You’re about to embark on a big old UK and European tour with a stop off at our place on the 1st March. Are there any places in particular that you’re excited to go to for the first time? Anywhere you’ve been before that you’re looking forward to revisiting?

We’re really looking forward to going back to Paradiso in Amsterdam. Our last gig there was one of our favourite gigs to date and we hope the punters bring the same energy this time! Also, really excited to be playing in A Coruna and Oviedo in Spain which we haven’t been to before…..and a bit of sun wouldn’t be too bad either….

So you’re touring your 3rd studio album, Solas (your first double album too!). You’ve just released that a couple of weeks ago. Congratulations! Are you pleased with the reception you’ve had from it so far? Does it get easier each time you release one?

The response has been absolutely incredible. It’s brought along amazing opportunities for us so far and we’re feeling very blessed to be able to do what we do. We definitely feel super confident in this album, so in a way it’s been easier than the other two!

Have you had chance to play these tracks live yet or is this tour a bit of a live exclusive?

We have only played a couple of new songs before the tour so our set is mostly new tunes! We have a few dates under our belt now so we’re feeling confident and ready and rock out!

Let’s chat about the music that makes you tick. Are you pretty united on the influences that you all bring to the band? Do you have an absolute number one artist/band that you always end up coming back to for inspiration?

We don’t have a singular band or artist that influences us as a band. I think that’s what makes our sound different to other artists, it’s hard to put us in any box. We all are into world music, Turkish psych, North African blues and Latin pop! I think you can definitely hear those influences seeping through our music.

You guys love a festival! Can you tease Adwaith fans about anything you’ve got coming up this summer post-tour?

We have a few festivals coming up but some we can’t announce just yet! We do have Rock Oyster, Bearded Theory and The Weekend Rumble announced already!

Imagine money is no limitation. What’s on your dream backstage rider?

Heledd would have tofu bao buns, Thai curry and Oreo milkshake.

Hollie would have a filet mignon, garlic and parmesan fries and a light fruity drink.

Gwen would go for a mezze with a toasted coconut drink…..

And some Welsh daffodils for the table.

Adwaith perform at The Bodega on 1st March. Tickets are available here.
