Dot To Dot is back again this year and we’ve got another stacked line-up in both the downstairs bar and our venue upstairs. Read on to get the rundown of the bands gracing the stage upstairs on the 26th May…
Opening things up at 2PM we’ve got Nottingham local Davoli who’s unique and intricate lyricism has earned him plenty of plays across BBC Radio and a regular gigging calendar. His latest body of work Notes For A New Year has a nostalgic feel and is exactly what you need to kick the day off. Warm weather, your first pint and some excellent songwriting. Following on at 3PM is Liverpool based three piece Trout who’s blend of slacker rock and post-punk intricacies has earned them a reputation as not only an exciting live band but a lyrically and musically cohesive group that seem to be going from strength to strength. Check out the EPs and get down early for this one!
May is a jam packed month for Girl Scout who hit the stage at 4PM, with Dot To Dot being one of eight stops across the country towards the end of month. Coining the term Bubblegrunge, the Swedish quartet bring both a huge energy but with the subtleties of introspective, heartfelt songwriting. At 5PM Cosmorat heads upstairs to showcase their unique indie, grunge and pop crossover. With an exceptional sonic palette and keen ear for manipulating sound these lot will be a spectacle to see live.
Taking us into the evening is Aziya who keeps up the energy at 6PM. Continuing on with the pop influenced grunge and goth sound, she blends the dark atmosphere of a basement show in Seattle with the catchy lyricism of a sold out stadium show. Not to be missed! 7PM marks the beginning of Home Counties set, a triumphant Bristol based band who’s angular post-punk and synth driven tracks has been eloquently captured in their debut album Exactly As It Seems which hit the shelves earlier on this month. Come check it out…
Continuing on is Brooklyn based sensation Tim Atlas who’s blend of R&B and Neo-Soul has seen him rack up millions of streams across Spotify and the acclaim of names such as Zane Lowe and Clash Magazine. With his new tune ‘Stardust’ landing soon we reckon you take a listen, learn the words and be there for his show at 8PM. Next up is Cambridge born, London dwelling band Ugly who bring us back to a post-punk landscape with touches of sixties and seventies underground nuances. The group have come into their own with their latest EP Twice Around The Sun so don’t let the name put you off, their show is a beauty. 9PM. On the Dot.
Mali Velasquez kicks off the beginning of the later shows at 10PM with her lush shoegaze inspired folk. Hailing from Tennessee this is an amazing opportunity to see one of America’s most promising folk artists at the moment. At 11PM the atmosphere changes once more with YHWH Nailgun bringing their blistering avant-garde form of New York post-something. Blending elements of tribal drums and dance-punk alongside touches of metal and hardcore we assure you their live set is not one to miss. Bring your earplugs.
The penultimate act of the evening is Picture Parlour who’ll be walking on as the clock strikes midnight. Having quickly gained huge critical acclaim with their blend of folk-like lyrics with hazy summer indie sensibilities, these lot are onto big things. Having supported the likes of Noel Gallagher, Bruce Springsteen and The Strokes it’s clear the stages are only going to get bigger. You know what to do.
